More Cornell surprises

Just so you all know, this is what the forest path looks like. This is where I see the deer, and this is also the shortcut I take to my animal science class (cuts a 40min walk into a 20 min walk).

Oh, and look at what I found today! I got lost behind some of the science buildings, and look! Gardens! Everywhere! And nobody walk through them (except for some staff I suppose).

I guess the horticulture students ran out of space on the farms or something... this is a collection of plants, with their names and descriptions on small plaques beside them.
Cool!

And, just so you know, there are more CHIPMUNKS here than squirrels.

The squirrels are not as fat or gray as the ones in Boston.

There are more seagulls here than pigeons.

And I see more water here than I did back home.

Kay, that's all!

Little secrets of Cornell

You would never know who else students share Cornell's campus with unless you look verrrrryyy closely and you keep a sharp ear.

I see deer on my way to animal science class (how appropriate) every morning!

Here is today's resident.

I'll try to get pictures of the deer with the radio collars on them :)

After a hard week of work...

After a week of HARD work (luckily I aced my bio exam!), it stopped raining and the weather is now PERFECT! So, what does a girl do on a Friday afternoon (before all the fun stuff starts)?

Clean up her room! Well, sort of.

And go exploring in the Plantations, of course! The path chosen today starts behind the observatory and goes into the woods.
This path goes all the way around Beebe Lake, which is the lake the pours water into the central gorge on campus.
This today's trail. Lots of cattails and milkweeds.
Some students enjoy the plantations and gorges in another way. An illegal way. The police came by while we walked upon the kids jumping off the bridge, but they just told them to be safe.....
Why jump off a bridge when you can see BIRDS!!!! Here's a female goldfinch.

Hairy woodpecker! *knock knock knock knock*
Wow, this tree is shaggy.
THIS is why we don't want people jumping off the bridge! Gorges!
My birding partner for the day, Jacob the entymology major, decided to flip over a log to collect bugs for his project. And look, a salamander!!! Red backed salamander, people.
I named him Arnold.

Coming attractions for this weekend: Ithaca Farmer's Market with my alumni mentor!

Orientation week explorations

Here are some of Cornell's wonders that I discovered during Orientation Week.

A good view of the program house dorms on North Campus. The HILC (where I live) is on the right side.

The secret to getting to the Animal Science classes (across campus from my dorm) on time is to take one of the many paths through Cornell's woods and Plantations.

Cornell also has several lakes and waterfalls. This is a picture of Beebe lake, which spills water into the main gorge on campus.

You MUST cross a bridge to get to your classes or to go off campus. You have to. There's no going around it. A big gorge cuts right through North Campus (residential) and Central Campus (where the actual classes are). Here is a picture of the car bridge, taken from the pedestrian foot bridge. See the gorge?

This is the main gorge. It's quite deep. This was taken on the foot bridge.

This is the same gorge after it rains! It sounds just like thunder and kicks up mist.

Keep the family together

Being apart does not mean we're not together. There is something wonderful called Skype!

The first pictures! CORNELL!

Here are FIRST pics! This includes packing up, the trip to Ithaca, and moving in.

There are more pictures to come, of course. I'm extremely tired and there's a lot of crazyness going on right now, so this is all I could post at the moment.

Oh what beautiful green hills :)

OHMYGOSH! Cowbebes and horses IN THE SAME SHOT! ON A FARM! :)
This lil' one and I. Lookin dorky on North Campus.

Chillin on a footbridge!

This is UNDER the bridge. And there are people there but they shouldn't be there...

Cornell is made of hills and I MEAN IT.

Nice view, huh?

My half of the dorm! More pics coming SOON!
Mom was so stressed, poor thing. Jessi was going with the flow. Notice the lobster pillow I bought~

Stay tuned!
